Timber Wharf, Manchester
The subject of an international architectural competition in 1999, the Architect’s winning solution placed a nine-storey pre-cast concrete penthouse block at the back of a triangular site, generating a sheltered garden on several levels adjacent to the Bridgewater canal in Castlefield.
A simple composition of limestone-paved ramps and steps, terraced lawns, ornamental grasses and tall bamboos reflects the modernist character of the building and provides a green haven for residents.
